We are deeply shocked as Belaady is following the situation of migrants and asylum seekers on the Libyan-Tunisian border and what comes from the Libyan side through what is known as the 19th Brigade, which confirms that it is bringing women and children into Libya and returning adult men from where they come from. The Libyan authorities recognize that migrants are expelled from the desert by car from the Tunisian side if they are neither infiltrators nor willing to enter Libya, but forced into force.
Belaady condemns the Libyan Government’s responsibility for the safety of these men and stresses the danger of separating families and children. Everyone must bear responsibility for what is happening. It is important that the Libyan side provide protection and humanitarian assistance to those who arrive and are not returned in degrading and unsafe ways until there is a settlement and resolution between the two sides, bearing in mind that international and local agencies and organizations are allowed to assist
